چکیده

Radioisotopes used in medical practice and for industrial or research applications are often produced with charged particle induced reactions. Although mostly proton beams are used, the cross sections of deuteron induced reactions are sometimes higher and lead to higher thick target production rates. For 13 targets, ranging from mass 61 to 176, an experimental comparison between cross sections and TTY for (p,n) and (d,2n) reactions were made. Three examples, leading to 64Cu, 103Pd and 186Re, respectively, are discussed in detail as well as the production of 99Mo and 176Lu by deuteron induced reactions.

Is There an Interest to Use Deuteron Beams to Produce Non-Conventional Radionuclides?

With the recent interest on the theranostic approach, there has been a renewed interest for alternative radionuclides in nuclear medicine. They can be produced using common production routes, i.e., using protons accelerated by biomedical cyclotrons or neutrons produced in research reactors. However, in some cases, it can be more valuable to use deuterons as projectiles. In the case of Cu-64, sm...

Deuteron Formation in Heavy Ion Collisions within the Faddeev Approach

We address the formation of correlations in a general nonequilibrium situation. As an example we calculate the formation of light composite particles in a heavy ion collision. In particular we study the formation of deuterons via three-body reactions in some detail. To calculate the relevant reaction rates we solve the Faddeev equation which is consistently modified to include the self energy c...

Importance of Coulomb dissociation of the deuteron on nucleon production reactions

A narrow beam of high energy neutrons or protons can be produced if a target material is bombarded with energetic deuterons. The processes which lead to the formation of stripped particle beams in encounters of high energy deuterons with target nuclei are briefly reviewed. We show that elastic Coulomb dissociation of the deuteron may play a significant role in energetic and forward peaked neutr...

Laser-triggered ion acceleration and table top isotope production

We have observed deuterons accelerated to energies of about 2 MeV in the interaction of relativistically intense 10 TW, 400 fs laser pulse with a thin layer of deuterated polystyrene deposited on Mylar film. These high-energy deuterons were directed to the boron sample, where they produced ;10 atoms of positron active isotope C from the reaction B(d ,n)C. The activation results suggest that deu...

Excitation transfer and energy exchange processes for modeling the Fleischmann-Pons excess heat effect

The absence of energetic particles commensurate with the energy produced is the single most notable feature of the Fleischmann-Pons experiment for theory, assuming that a new nuclear process is involved. We discuss briefly energy exchange between two-level systems and a low energy oscillator, concluding that spin-boson models augmented with loss are able to describe coherent energy exchange inv...
